Lu Kloc Tu Fm

Period:
Jurassic

late Aalenian (5)

Province:
Sibumasu: Western Region

Type Locality and Naming

Umphang basin, Tak Province. Named after Lu Kloc Tu Mountain on the Thailand-Myanmar border where the type section located. The type locality of the formation is along a small track to the top of Lu Kloc Tu trending east – west off the track from Ban Klo Tho to Ban Pu Khloe Khi (grid reference 630762, map sheet 4741-III). Uppermost formation in the Umphang Gr.

Synonym: หมวดหินหลูโ่ค้กตู

Sandstone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The formation grades up from sandy limestone of the underlying Pu Khloe Khi Fm.

Upper contact

The top is unknown but the youngest exposed strata are well-bedded sandstones. It is likely to lie unconformably beneath Tertiary strata since no Cretaceous rocks are known in the region.

Regional extent

Umphang basin, Tak Province.

Age

An Aalenian or younger age is indicated on its stratigraphic relationship with dated rocks lower in the succession. Fig. 7.3 in Meesook & Saerngsrichan (2011) indicates a span of mid-Aalenian to base-Bajocian.

Age Span:

    Beginning stage:
